TAL is an adult development and problem-solving tool for companies to coach leaders to develop mental agility and more openness to unlearning and relearning. TAL creates a safe space for leaders and managers to change their identity from feeling they have to “know everything” to being willing to “value not-knowing.”
Robert Kegan from Harvard University calls this the “self-transforming mind,” which is able to deal with contradiction, uncertainty, and loss of control. TAL is a dynamic process that involves a small group of leaders solving real problems while, at the same time, uncovering that they will benefit each other, the group itself, and the organization as a whole by focusing on what and how they learn. TAL’s most valuable capacity is its amazing, multiplying impact to equip individuals, especially leaders, with the ability to more effectively respond to change.
Learning is what makes action learning strategic rather than tactical.
Fresh thinking and new learning are needed if we are to avoid responding to today’s problems with yesterday’s solutions while tomorrow’s challenges engulf us.
